Malcolm Turner
I am actually already fairly familiar with this film, I have programmed it into my festival this year. For me, there is a LOT in the “visuality” of this film that really embodies what the unique properties of animation are all about. It is a highly imaginative film and the extent of that “surrealish” vision is fully presented on screen. It bends perspective, plays with dimensions and stretches/compresses many of the elements of its imagined world with confidence and humour. It’s massive fun to watch and think about as well as being a solid example of what creative and auteur style animation is capable of.

James Davis
This was funny to watch. I enjoyed the unfolding story. I was a little confused by the ending. The design was somewhat crude, but seemed to serve the story. The animation was effective. The music was appropriately circus like. I liked the conceptual struggle between the collectors and the collector with himself. Am I a man dreaming of being a butterfly? I was glad to see one of the butterflies escape.

Great sense of humor! Love the character designs. The story is very original, and it is also a one-of-a-kind approach to the negative side of being a collector.

I first saw this in a festival in South America and it was very much enjoyed by the audience. I particularly like its free-play with the animation itself, dissolving time, space, shape, and form in the service of its core concept. I am not entirely convinced that the film is fully in control of its central metaphor, but the idea that we are defined by what we collect and own; how this is appropriated from others; and how it underpins compulsion, desire, and possessiveness; and yet leads to alienation and a lack of fulfilment is compelling. The pace and colour-palette also make it fun and
distinctive.

Sound design very weak. The levels on the spoken words are drown out by the music track. Fun and way over the top look at obsessive collectors. The character designs are very primitive without any real reason for their crude designs.

The story is original, as well as the character design and the overall design. I like the choice of using bold colors and “flat”, 2D animation. There is also a feeling of suspense: how far the collectors will go and what will happen? Thank you for making an entertaining short! And hopefully, butterflies will reign!

One of the absolute weirdest satires of capitalism run amok that I ever expect to see. On a small planet, brightly colored people stretch their gigantic serpentine arms out and take little things, then bigger things, then soon everything that exists is being hoarded by just a couple sunshiny, smiling cartoon blobs too eye catching and silly to be menacing, though the relentless cheeriness of the film starts to be a little threatening itself. The super-saturated, wiggly style is an absolute good, though it certainly couldn't stand up under much more than the five minutes presented here; the message is a bit obvious, but something this short doesn't have the luxury of subtlety, and anyway, the conflation of the massively simplistic rubber hose aesthetic and the unbridled greed displayed through that aesthetic works pretty wonderfully to get the movie's point across. 8/10 rating
